Peterborough has been a Gigabit City since 2013 and the city-landscape has changed dramatically following the build of a new state of the art pure fibre network

With internet speeds up to 100x faster than the UK average, it is no wonder that Peterborough managed to stave off competition from Moscow and Dubai when awarded the World ‘Smart City of the Year’ in 2015.

Peterborough’s Gigabit City network now connects 107 public sector sites, including administrative offices, data centres, schools and hospitals, providing a future-proofed network for Peterborough City Council to develop their ambitious digital strategy. Peterborough City Council will soon be connecting 220 new sites to the network comprise CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi connections and a network of Information Traffic System locations. Following the launch of CityFibre’s “Gig Up” campaign, over 25% of the city’s business registered their interest in taking services over the new ultra-fast network. The network now connects over 150 local businesses, future-proofing them as their digital requirements grow in the future.
