Plans for a House of Fraser Distribution Centre in Peterborough

Plans have been approved for premium British department store, House of Fraser, to open a huge distribution centre at Great Haddon distribution park in Peterborough, creating up to 1000 new jobs.

The retail giant plans to build a 750,000 sq ft warehouse and office with a 620-space car park in the outskirts of the city, to the west of Hampton. The project is expected to start within the next few months, and it’s hoped that it’ll come to a conclusion in 18 to 24 months’ time.

House of Fraser have been in business for over 150 years, starting out as a small drapery shop in Glasgow and growing into an international department store. The brand strives to keep their employees’ best interests at heart and continue to provide the best opportunities possible for them to advance in their careers. In the not-too-distant future, there’ll be the opportunity for 500 to 1000 more people to join the fast-growing fashion retailer here in Peterborough.

The company has had a significant increase in sales over the past few years, resulting in the need for greater warehouse space. The distribution centre is anticipated to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and consequently they’re predicting to be able to offer flexible shifts to full and part time workers.

In recent years, Peterborough has become a hub for investment. Our up-and-coming city continues to attract big-name brands and top ranking businesses, and welcoming House of Fraser will only help to increase job availability, growth and investment in the local economy further. In the past three years, businesses in Peterborough have created 7000 new jobs. Acquiring new business facilities significantly improves the city’s business rate income, which can in turn fund even more expansion projects. The council hopes that one day it’ll eventually be able to open a House of Fraser store, too.
